Island Better Hearing started in Melville NY in 1972 as the Island Hearing Aid Center. The owner, Robert "Bob" Trentacoste, had been working with Hearing aid dispensers in New York City and was attending College to become an Optician as well as being a licensed hearing aid dispenser.
Bob's wife shared the work load by answering telephones and scheduling appointments until moving to the Walt Whitman Mall location in 1974. Many of the hearing aids dispensed were recommended by local Speech and Hearing Centers throughout Long Island and Queens. Bob had an excellent relationship with these Centers due to his relentless dedication to his profession. Many of the recommended hearing aids were attached to eyeglasses that could be adapted to high frequency open mold fittings. With today's high tech Digital hearing aids, these hearing aids are no longer being made.
Bob's daughter, Lori Trentacoste, who worked part time for the Center while attending college is now the owner of this family owned business, and has allowed the Practice to grow in so many wonderful directions. We work with local School districts, County Early Intervention Programs, Nursing Homes and local Physicians to care for the needs of their hearing impaired population.
Island Better hearing moved to its current location, the Clock Tower Plaza, in 1996, and with the move, Lori has been responsible for installing the very latest digital testing equipment and the hiring of the very best audiologists to serve patients , some of which have been our friends for over 30 years.
